Community Guidelines for Students
Please take a moment to review the following Community and Workshop Guidelines for Participation, which aim to share our classroom ethos and help set the stage for the best possible learning experience.
Community Guidelines for Participation
- Respect others’ rights to hold opinions and beliefs that differ from your own. Challenge the idea, not the person.
- Listen carefully to what others are saying even when you disagree with what is being said. Comments that you make (asking for clarification, sharing critiques, expanding on a point, etc.) should reflect that you have paid attention to the speaker’s comments.
- Be courteous. Don’t interrupt or engage in private conversations while others are speaking.
- Allow everyone the chance to talk. If you have much to say, try to hold back a bit; if you are hesitant to speak, look for opportunities to contribute to the discussion.
Workshop Guidelines
The following guidelines apply for all discussions and conversations that take place among members of The Indigo Bell Workshops:
- I will respect my fellow participants, taking into consideration that everyone comes from diverse backgrounds and different levels of technical experience.
- I will be open-minded and prepared to enjoy the workshop.
- I will be mindful of how I present myself to the class.
- I will not be aggressive, judgmental, or verbally attack anyone.
- I will engage in active listening when others in the class are speaking, which includes not interrupting, turning my mobile phone off, and refraining from text messaging.
- I will wait my turn and allow the tutor to spend equal time with each participant and not expect to be always the first to have the tutor’s attention.
- I will actively participate in the class, which means I will come to class on time and be prepared for each workshop.
- I will step up and make verbal contributions during class, and I will also step back and allow others to speak after I have had my turn.
