Easy Crochet Scarf
This is an easy pattern for beginners who have mastered some of the basic crochet stitches. It is a repeat of two rows. The first row is a treble stitch (UK) or double crochet (US) and the next row a cross over treble (UK)/double crochet (US). You will master this pattern in no time.
CROCHET INSTRUCTIONS

MATERIALS
2 skeins of 8 ply 50g yarn
Crochet Hook: Size 5.5mm
FINISHED SIZE
Each row is 175 mm (7 inches) wide and the finished size of the scarf is approximately 1,250 mm (50 inches) long excluding fringe.
CROCHET TERMS (UK/AUS):
ch = chain
st = stitch
tr = treble
rep = repeat
sl st = slip stitch
sk = skip
BODY OF SCARF (UK/Australian):
Foundation Row: Ch 21
Row 1: starting in 2nd ch from the hook tr, tr in every ch across, turn. (20)
Row 2: ch 1, tr in first st, * skip 1 st, tr in next st, go back to the st you sk and tr in that (criss-cross), rep from * across, end with 1 tr in last st, turn. (20)
Row 3: ch 1, tr in first st, tr in every st across, turn. (20)
Row 4: ch 1, tr in first st,* skip 1 st, tr in next st, go back to the st you sk and tr in that (criss-cross), rep from * across, end with 1 tr in last st, turn. (20)
Row 5 – 77: repeat rows 3 & 4 for pattern. (20)
Row 78: repeat row 3, do not fasten off if you are doing the border (20)
BORDER (Optional)
Working in the same st as last tr ch 2, tr again in same st (corner). Working along outside long edge of scarf tr 1 time in each row for a total of 78 st’s (78) ·
Working in same st as last tr ch 2, tr again in same st (corner), working on the short edge of scarf tr evenly across for a total of 20 st’s. (20) ·
Working in the same st as last ch 2, tr again in same st (corner). Working along outside long edge of scarf tr 1 time in each row for a total of 78 st’s (78) ·
Working in same st as last tr ch 2, tr again in same st (corner), working on the short edge of scarf tr evenly across for a total of 20 st’s. sl st to top of the first tr of the first border (20) ·
Fasten off and weave in ends throughout scarf with a yarn needle.
FRINGE (Optional)
Wrap yarn around a 150 mm book or piece of cardboard to get 300 mm even pieces.
Cut along the top of yarn to get 300 mm pieces of yarn.
Take pieces of yarn and fold in half. ·
Repeat the steps below 8 times evenly on each end of the scarf. ·
Insert hook into the first stitch to be fringed and put the 4 pieces of cut yarn that were folded in half onto the hook. ·
Pull yarn through the first corner stitch.
Take yarn ends and pull through the loop that was made with the crochet hook to secure. ·
Trim ends of fringe to your desired length.
You have now completed your fringe scarf!
